Dog falls 45ft and survives - thanks to Reiki healing

Jun 11 2003

Dog Penny the Labrador and her owner, Caroline Jones

PENNY the Labrador got more than she bargained for when she tried to leap into the sea for a cooling dip.

The three-year-old from Ellesmere Port plunged 45 feet on to a concrete ledge as she bounded over a wall - but amazingly escaped with only cuts and bruises.

Penny had to be rescued by fire fighters following her death-defying fall at Riverview Road in Bromborough shortly after 3pm on Monday.

The dog had just been let off the lead by her dog walkers who had decided to take her down to the seafront after walking her in Eastham Woods.

Unluckily for the beloved family pet the tide was out and when she jumped over the wall she landed on concrete.

One of her dog walkers was Mark Davies, a friend of Penny's owners. He is a local firefighter who practises Reiki healing. He managed to clamber down and pacify the distressed dog before she was pulled to safety by a crew from Bromborough fire station.

Mr Davies, who works at Ellesmere Port fire station, told the Daily Post: "Penny saw the water over the wall and just went and then we heard a loud yelp.

"We ran to the wall and saw her lying spread-eagled on a concrete ledge with blood coming out of her mouth and one of her legs quivering.

"I climbed down two ladders nearby while my companion rang for help. I just held Penny when I got there, putting my hands on her body."

Mark, who is 25 and from Eastham, has just finished his Reiki training and is convinced that it helped the stricken dog: "I think it reduced the level of shock she was suffering, because she remained really calm during the rescue and at the vet's later. You wouldn't have believed, to have seen her walking, that she had fallen as far as she had."
