Prostitute Pauline Stephen

MURDER squad detectives were today (Monday, July 21) hunting a killer after the butchered remains of a body were found in an alley.

The chopped-up naked body which was found stuffed inside binbags in Everton is thought to be that of vice-girl Pauline Stephen.

Police sealed off St Domingo Vale at it's junction with Breckfield Road North as Scenes of Crime officers examined the alleyway where the grim discovery was made.

Only yards away police search teams found the dumped clothes that the 25-year-old mum, from Skelmersdale, had last been seen wearing.

It followed the discovery of her abandoned white Ford Escort estate nearby.

Today her mother Pat Brown, 47, from Netherton, who last week spoke of how she feared her daughter was dead, was too upset to talk.

Pauline's eight-year-old son was being comforted by his family.

Her brother Douglas Stephen said: "The police have told us what they found yesterday. We've had no news since then.

"This is a terrible time for us and we need to be left alone."

A spokeswoman for Merseyside Police said: "Miss Stephen's family have been informed of the latest developments.

"At 3pm yesterday afternoon officers discovered clothing in the alleyway which they thought may be linked to the disappearance.

"A few hours later the remains of a human body were discovered, it is not known if they are male or female."

Test results were today being carried out on the dumped body parts to discover if they were those of the missing vice-girl.

Experts were trying to identify the body parts through fingerprints, dental records and distinguishing marks, such as tattoos.

The body had been subject to a frenzied attack.
