More time to quiz suspect

DETECTIVES were today expected to be given more time to quiz Mark Corner. This morning they asked magistrates in Liverpool for an extension to keep the 26-year-old in custody for questioning. Mr Corner was arrested on Monday night in connection with the double murder of prostitutes Hanane Parry and Pauline Stephen whose bodies were found 24 hours earlier. Both women were murdered then cut to pieces before being stuffed in a bag and left behind a row of houses on St Domingo Vale, in Everton. Story continues ADVERTISEMENT Last night Ms Parry's mother was told that her teenager daughter had been killed. The 19-year-old lived in Liverpool and worked the same areas of Everton as Ms Stephen. She previously lived in Chester with her mother and two brothers - aged 11 and 13 - and her seven-year-old sister. Ms Parry had not been reported as missing but she had not been seen by her friends for more than a fortnight. Detectives were able to officially name both victims after a team of forensic experts worked round the clock to identify the woman. A Merseyside police spokeswoman said: "Ms Parry's family are obviously very distressed about what has happened. "They are devastated and are being comforted by other relatives and friends. "It has come as a massive shock and at the moment they just want to grieve in peace." When the two bodies were found police cordoned off a huge part of St Domingo Vale as forensic teams conducted a detailed search. They also sealed off the whole of Stanley Park after intelligence led them to believe vital evidence could be there. Detectives are now trying to piece together the last movements of Ms Parry. They do not yet know how or when both women were killed and are awaiting the results of more tests on their body parts. Police are also speaking to prostitutes across the city who may have known Ms Parry to try and establish the last time anyone saw her alive. She is known to have mainly worked along Everton's Netherfield Road but also had friends in other red light districts. Ms Stephen was reported missing on Saturday July 12 when she failed to return home after travelling to Liverpool to work the streets. Fears for her safety grew when her car was later found abandoned and her mother made a desperate plea for help in tracking her daughter down. But eight days after she was last seen her dismembered naked body was found in the alley way. Ms Stephen's mother, Pat Brown, is now looking after her daughter's eight-year-old son at her home in Netherton. She has vowed to bring him up after and make him her number one priority.
