A FARM worker was killed when his forklift truck crashed down an embankment, trapping him upside down in a brook.
Emergency crews battled for more than two hours to free the 20-year-old but he died at the scene.
The young man, who worked at Yew Tree Farm in Ince near Ellesmere Port, was following the farmer along Marsh Lane helping to round up cows last night at 8pm when the accident happened.
The vehicle went off the road and down an embankment. The driver was submerged to his waist in the water.
Despite using heavy lifting equipment it took fire crews two hours to drag the vehicle from the brook and release the man.
The scene was sealed off while police officers carried out an investigation.
Sub officer Keith Nicholson, from Ellesmere Port fire station, said: "He was driving the vehicle and it had gone down into the embankment. He was dead when we arrived.
"He was upside down and up to his waste in water and we believe he had been there for about ten minutes before we got there.
"Because we had to call in heavy lifting units to remove the vehicle it took us about two hours to free him.
"It was a terrible thing to happen to such a young lad."
The man, who lived locally in Ince, was taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A police spokeswoman said there were no suspicious circumstances and a post mortem was expected to be opened later today.
The Health and Safety Executive has been informed will carry out an investigation.
