Ray of sunshine
ACTOR Ray Winstone might play the tough guy on screen but as Liverpool chef-to-the-stars Terry McShane discovered he's a big softie at heart. Terry, head chef at The Quarter restaurant in Faulkner Street, cooked for Ray, Jude Law, Nicole Kidman, Renee Zellweger and Natalie Portman on the set of the movie Cold Mountain. And Terry is flying out to LA for the premiere of the long-awaited film in December. He told The insider Ray was a lovely guy. "We had a little cafe bar on the set where I cooked for the crew, and Ray Winstone came in every night for a few drinks," says Terry, 27. "He is such a nice guy. He is a big hard knock - you wouldn't mess with him but he is soft really - he is like your dad." Terry, who was offered the once-in-a-lifetime job in Romania by a production assistant friend working on the set is also quick to sing the praises of the other cast members - some of whom he still keeps in touch with now. "I cooked for Nicole and Jude once or twice a week," he says. "Nicole had her own private chef so I didn't do as much for her - I would just skin her fish. For Jude, I would bulk cook stuff for the week. I would cook vegetable lasagne and pasta as he is a vegetarian, or make simple things like hummous, which you can't buy there. "Jude's just one of the boys. We used to watch the football at his place because he was the only one who had Sky. He was forced to watch it by me - I'm a red and he likes Liverpool." And while she may be one of the most beautiful women in the world, Terry says Nicole didn't catch his eye - but neither did he notice any problems with her much documented weight. "I didn't fancy her at all," he admits. "She is not my type of woman. As a person you couldn't fault her. She was, however, very careful of what she ate - it was mostly just chicken and fish, but she looked great and not too thin at all." Terry confesses his favourite star was the beautiful Natalie Portman. "She is the most adorable person you could ever meet in your life," he says. But there is one subject he won't talk about - the rumours about a romance between Jude and Nicole. "Absolutely no comment," is the only answer he'll give when asked if he ever noticed anything between the two. Although he's just as cryptic over whether he will do any more films has let it slip that he could have another big movie set in the pipe-line . Watch this space. |
