NEWSHAM Park residents say the planned Kensington Academy will make their lives a misery.
Developers for the new city academy, due to open in September 2005, are waiting for planning permission to build it on the council depot site in Gardeners Drive.
But residents say it is the wrong place for a school, the depot is still in the park and the building works plus all pupils and staff will ruin one of the last remaining green spaces in Kensington.
City academies are new schools for deprived areas with money from the government and private sponsors - the Kensington academy is jointly sponsored by the diocese and archdiocese of Liverpool.
Peter Brooks, of Strathmore Road, chairman of the Friends of Newsham Park, said: "It's going to cause all the problems that developments bring - disruption, traffic, but most importantly is the precedent this will set if the park is endangered."
