THE fiancée of a soldier being sued by a hotel for the cancellation of their wedding has spoken of her heartache.
Claire McCombe told the Daily Post that the action brought by the Leasowe Castle Hotel, Moreton was "distressing beyond belief".
Claire, a mental health worker, was due to marry 23-year-old Alan Tudball in April and then enjoy a reception at the three star venue with its unrivalled views of the Dee Estuary.
But the nuptials were cancelled after Alan was seriously injured in a friendly fire attack while serving with British forces in Iraq.
The Lance Corporal in the Household Cavalry spent a month in a coma.
Claire, 21, who met Alan four years ago and got engaged last year said: "It was hard enough having to cancel the marriage for the reasons we did, now we have one of the most distressing times of our life thrown back in our face - it's beyond belief."
Claire, who lives in Moreton, added "Alan was fighting for his life after the attack and is still in a lot of pain. He is still recovering now and this is just adding to the misery of it all."
Alan was pulled from the wreckage of his burning armoured vehicle by 18-year-old Chris Finney, who subsequently won the George Cross for gallantry, the youngest serviceman ever to be so honoured.
The vehicle was hit twice by American aircraft while on patrol north of Basra.
Alan suffered massive head injuries and was left partially paralysed and seven months on he still cannot use his left arm.
There are also lumps of shrapnel still in his bowel and his left leg was so badly shattered that surgeons had to rebuild his thigh bone with steel pins. That leg is now an inch shorter than the other.
