Boy begs for his lost dog

Jan 7 2004

By Catherine Jones Echo Reporter, Liverpool Echo

A DISABLED youngster has been left heartbroken after thieves took his family pet.

Liam Hughes, who has cerebral palsy, was inseparable from Lady, an English bull terrier.

But the two-year-old dog disappeared from the family's garden in Maryport Close, Anfield, 10 days ago.

Liam's parents are convinced the pet has been stolen.

Tracey Hughes, 32, said: "There's no way she could have jumped the gate. She was there the other Sunday morning, and then suddenly she was gone.

"We had all our relatives out looking for her within minutes, but there was no sign of her. She has to be in a house, or she could have been put in a car.

"Liam has cerebral palsy and is global ly development delayed, which means one minute he thinks Lady is going to come back and the next he is saying: 'Where has the bad man taken my dog?'

"We've had Lady since she was a puppy. We went around every breed to find one that could cope with Liam because he gets very boisterous.

"She lets him pull her tail and get her in a headlock. When he's not well and he likes to lie on a cushion in front of the television, she likes to lie next to him on his legs."

Liam's father John Robinson, 40, has put up dozens of colour posters appealing for Lady's safe return.

He said: "We just want her back. We've got a little boy crying his eyes out."

The family is willing to offer a reward for information leading to Lady's safe return.

A Merseyside police spokeswoman said: "We want her to be returned as soon as possible. Lady was well-known in the Anfield area as a friendly dog."

Anyone with information should call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
