Callous and unethical decision is on a par with employees who have been sacked by text message
THESE are some comments received by the Daily Post about the planned closure:
"The university has claimed to have 'given assurance' to all current students that they will be able to complete their studies. I can tell you that this simply isn't the case. I, and many of my colleagues are yet to receive any information from the university at all." (Stuart Frisby, currently studying Japanese at JMU).
"What tutor who actually decides to stay on as part of a skeleton staff will give his or her all to teaching at this university when they have suffered such a callous and unethical decision as this, which is on par with employees of late that have been sacked by text message." (Jordan Taylor, Year 2 student in Japanese).
"The way it has been announced is shameful, just a side note in the news section of the LJMU website." (Paul Sheen)
"The school of languages is a gem that has provided a first-class service to students for many years and hopefully for many years to come. Please reconsider your decision to scrap this gem and let all that hard work go to waste." (Stuart Healey, JMU school of languages graduate).
"I was very shocked and dismayed to hear that such a well-established and influential school would now fall prey to Great Britain's ignorance towards languages, which seems to be endemic in our society at the moment." (Nicola Bowers, JMU school of languages graduate).
"The university has grossly under-estimated the excellent quality of its teaching staff in the language school." (Rachel Goundry, JMU school of languages graduate).
