"Although the guitar was never actually owned by Paul McCartney, it did belong to his close friend.
"We at the Beatles Story are proud to have on display the acoustic guitar on which George Harrison learned his first chords and what's more, this guitar was owned by George himself."
He added: "We also can say without this guitar the Beatles may never have existed. George's first guitar must now be worth close to £500,000 making it one of the most significant and valuable guitars in the world."
Sir Paul's guitar went under the hammer at London's Abbey Road Studios, after his school friend Ian James, from Ormskirk, decided to sell it to fund his retirement.
The Rex acoustic guitar helped Sir Paul persuade John Lennon to let him join his band, The Quarrymen, in 1957.
Recalling the encounter, Sir Paul once said: "I showed him a few more chords he didn't know. Ian James had taught me them, really.
"Then I left. I felt I'd made a good impression, shown them how good I was."
The Beatles Story will now approach Mr Jackson to ask if he will let them display his new purchase alongside Harrison's.
Mr Goldman added: "The Beatles Story now intends to contact Mr Jackson as they are certain the hundred of thousands of fans visiting Liverpool would love to see the McCartney and Harrison guitars side by side for the enjoyment of all." samlister@dailypost.co.uk Ian James, in his musical youth
