The association, which has 50 members, has already distributed books to Iraqi universities and Hameed is hoping to set up a series of student exchanges.
He said: "There is trust between British and Iraqis on an individual basis, but at the moment a large number of Iraqis are distrustful of the troops out there.
"We are hoping education is the way forward.
"Children in Iraq will walk miles just to get to school.
"They are so keen to learn. We want to build on that."
