Council backs campaign to control trade in arms

 Previous 1 2

Earlier this year Amnesty International exposed British-based companies flying tens of tonnes of AK47 machine guns and millions of rounds of ammunition to Rwanda and Burundi, for shipment to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where conflict has claimed millions of lives.

The militias who were buying those weapons have since been implicated in the massacre and mass rape of thousands of civilians in the area.

The organisations are asking people to join their online Million Faces Petition, which will be presented to the UN Conference on Small Arms in 2006.

The document is available to read on the campaign's website: www.controlarms.org.
