Cathedral hymns and classical music in just one of city's fundraising events
* LIVERPOOL Metropolitan RC Cathedral hosts a charity concert on Saturday, aiming to raise up to £5,000 from ticket sales and a collection.
Arvato services, which employs 640 people in its multilingual contact centre in the Cunard Building, is donating £1 to the Disasters Emergency Committee for every ticket sold.
The concert at 7.30pm will feature members of the strings section of the Metropolitan Cathedral Orchestra and include a range of hymns and classical music favourites.
Tickets are on sale at the cathedral bookshop and the visitor centre for £5.
* MORE than 200 people were holding a vigil at Liverpool town hall at 5.30pm today in memory of the victims.
The mayors of the five Merseyside boroughs were joining faith leaders and community organisations, alongside representatives of countries affected.
* AID for the Sri Lankan victims has been collected by parishioners at St Michael's church in Garston after an appeal launched by St Michael's warden Alan Wheeler and his family. More than 87 bags and 70 boxes of clothing, bedding and supplies has been collected.
Medical supplies have also been bought thanks to cash donations. Arriva donated a bus and four drivers to help transport the aid items to Toxteth community college to be presented to the Sri Lankan Association of Merseyside.
* CHINESE restaurant May Sum on Elliot Street, Liverpool city centre, is donating half of its takings during a charity night tonight organised by the Liverpool Chinatown Business Association.
The association is handing out donation boxes to Chinese businesses and community centres.
