She said: "I'd like people to join with me to walk, even if it's just part of the way, as support." The walk is sponsored by Oxfam. Anyone who wants to take part or sponsor it, call Susan on 07932 885390. Congregation raises £10,500 in two days CHURCH members in Fairfield raised more than £10,500 for the tsunami appeal in one weekend. The congregation donated the money through collections in two services at St Sebastian's RC church. Parish priest Patrick Kelly said: "This is a very poor area but people's generosity was tremendous. "It is really remarkable. We have all been moved by the dreadful disaster." St Sebastian's primary school is adding to the fundraising effort with a bid to raise £1,000. Sri Lankan-born Emmanuel Rodrigo, 33, has four children at the school. His two brothers are fishermen in Sri Lanka and were only saved from the tsunami because they were going to church. Mr Rodrigo said: "They saw the wave coming and they ran up the hill. They had a lucky escape because any other day they would have been out fishing. "They lost all their property in the disaster so they are having a difficult time. "They are hoping the government will be able to help them but, until then, they have to find a way to live. "I'm very proud that the British people are raising so much money for the victims." For every 20p collected, the school will place a paper footstep on the floor to mark progress. Headteacher Dennis Hardiman said: "When Father Kelly told me I couldn't believe it. "It's a phenomenal amount of money to have raised already and the children want to do their bit" All the money raised by St Sebastian's will go to charity Cafod, the Catholic Fund for Overseas Development.
