Fathers 4 Justice offshoot aims for role in politics

The Children First Party is in the process of registering as a political party but is not due to be launched until around Easter. Daryl Irwin, the party's leader said: "We are laying the foundations at the moment, but hopefully we will be registered in the next week or so." Both groups aim to put pressure on the main political parties to change family law "to better serve" the children involved in messy divorces. Mr Molloy said: "We're offering a lifeline to people who want to continue campaigning for equal access rights for fathers." Matt O'Connor, leader of Fathers 4 Justice, famous for carrying out dare-devil stunts, announced the end of the line for the organisation. He said he was proud of the work it had done, but that if it was "going down the road of the extremist element", the group had no future. Story continues ADVERTISEMENT Fathers 4 Justice have been campaigning since 2003 to raise awareness of the inequalities in parental access rights. Mr Malloy said: "The issue that Fathers 4 Justice campaign for is still very much alive, but the group itself has been in slow decline for the last 12 to 18 months. "They were really successful at first but they needed to step up their game, but they have just been losing momentum. They had loads of public support at the beginning but the stunts kept on disrupting normal people so they have started to alienate people who used to sympathise with them."
