"There was no traffic around and I did not see the changes until I was part way down the road and then I saw a sign for a bus lane which was painted on the road.
"I had no choice at this stage but to continue with my journey and I then came across a row of police cars who stopped me and issued me with a fine. They informed me they were in the area to advise, but this was clearly not the case as I was given a fine."
The motorist, who has been driving formore than 20 years, added: "The no entry sign on this road had been turned to face the opposite direction and even if it had been on view, it is still obscured by other signs. Everything is very unclear in this area. It is impossible to know this is nowa buslane until you are actually driving along it."
Liverpool council said today there are advance direction signs to tell motorists through traffic should use Copperas Hill and Brownlow Hill.
A spokesman said: "No entry signs are on the junction itself together with a buses and taxis only sign. The road is painted red to indicate a bus lane.
"Before the changes to Lime Street, advance warning signs were erected, posters and leaflets were displayed in the area.
