EPIDERMOLYSIS Bullosa (EB) is a rare genetic condition which means the skin and internal body linings blister at the slightest knock or rub, causing painful, open wounds.
Around 5,000 people in the UK have the illness, which is inherited.
The mildest form of EB means blistering is confined to the hands and feet, making holding things and walking extremely painful. In more severe forms, all the body is affected and the wounds heal very slowly, causing scarring, physical deformity and disability.
It also cause the inner body linings, such as the mouth and oesophagus, to blister.
Eating of solid food is almost impossible for sufferers.
