Mr Wilmer says he filed an application to see his son in April but does not yet have a date for a court hearing.

"David Blunkett gets his access case heard by the high court in two weeks," he said.

"Why should the law treat him any differently than other fathers?"

Mr Wilmer added: "I am here because I want my son to see me and know that I love him.

"All we want is to see our children this Christmas."

Tom Hunter, managing director of Radio City said today: "We have had teams on the roof cleaning the windows recently and it was a very plausible cover story.

"Obviously the tower is a landmark building and we are always going to be a target for this sort of protest.

"But the police have assured us that there is no danger to the staff or any people around the tower.

"Radio City will continue broadcasting as normal."
