Injured diver flying home for treatment

The whole family, including John's seven stepbrothers and sisters, has rallied round to help bring him home.

His mother Sandra and her husband Steve Buckley held a fundraising day at their pub in Bagillt, Wales.

Mrs Buckley, who took over the pub seven months ago, said: "His injuries are horrific and I just want to get my son home.

"He's going to come back to the Boot and Ship for a while and then make up his own mind about what he wants to do next. We just want to get him here and look after him."

"At first we heard that all the divers had been killed and there were no survivors. It was the worst feeling on earth.

"But on the 28th we heard there were a few survivors and that gave us a little hope.

"We couldn't find out anything from this end - we tried the British Embassy, everything, but got nowhere.

"It wasn't until the fourth day when Dave, John's natural father, told us John was alive."
