Willmott wants people to write to him with their stories, and some could form the basis of a book to be published at the time the play opens. He added: “I’m coming up to direct Much Ado About Nothing, and I will try to stay on for a month afterwards to start work on this project.
“It will be a romantic story which will probably span generations. There are so many legends that have stayed there that I want to include as much as possible.
“It is very early days at the moment, though. I just have the idea. What I really want is for people who have stayed at the Adelphi and have a romantic story about it to contact me.
“There must be hundreds of amazing tales to tell, and I would like to produce a book of people’s memories to come out alongside the musical.
“It’s very exciting. I want it to be a big, funny celebration.”
* ANYONE with a story to tell should write to Phil Willmott care of Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse, 13 Hope Street, Liverpool, L1 9BH.
