The Rev Dr Shannon Ledbetter, of St Mary's Church in Knowsley Village, believes the iPod could revolutionise worshipping for the young and old alike.
Dr Ledbetter, 43, who appeared in the 1997 James Bond film, Tomorrow Never Dies, believes the technological breakthrough could be a "godsend" for the housebound.
She said: "For the elderly and housebound, this is a fantastic - all you need to do is fix them up with an iPod and they're good to go.
"For the young also, there is so much information out there, which can help to answer their questions about their faith.
"They can listen to six different preachers from around the country until they find a message which really connects with them, is relevant to their lives, and speaks to them personally."
The former university theology lecturer, originally from New York, believes that the iPod won't increase the temptation for worshippers to miss church.
She added: "I think people who come to church will do so anyway.
"This will bring church numbers up, because people who tune in will want to experience the full spectrum of worship, the interaction with other parishioners, the singing of hymns and the experience of the building.
"We wouldn't want people to rely solely on an iPod."
