A LIVERPOOL business leader has leapt to the defence of Tesco following the criticism levelled at the supermarket chain after its plans to open on Hope Street were revealed.
Frank McKenna, chairman of Downtown Liverpool in Business, said he understood why people did not want a Tesco in the street, but hit out at the way the “national sport of Tesco bashing” had been embraced locally.
Tesco has applied for permission to put up an illuminated sign in a unit next to the Philharmonic Dining Rooms pub.
