Colin Smith

A MAN was being questioned today about the gangland murder of Colin Smith (pictured).

The 42-year-old was arrested at an address in Garston this morning on suspicion of conspiracy to murder the father-of-five.

His arrest came after police carried out warrants at five addresses, four of which were residential and one a business, believed to be related to the arrested man.

It is the first arrest that has been made in the investigation into the shooting last November.

Smith, 40, from Allerton, said to be the former right-hand man of gangster Curtis Warren, was shot twice at close range with a pump-action shotgun as he left Nel’s gym in Speke at 8pm November 13.

He was attacked as he walked to his black Ford Galaxy in Alderwood Avenue.

He collapsed on the pavement with wounds to the stomach and died at the scene.

A police spokeswoman said today: “A 42 year-old man from Garston was arrested this morning on suspicion of conspiracy to murder Colin Smith.

“The arrest followed the execution of five warrants, four at residential addresses and one at a business address in the Garston area.”
