It is also claimed senior members of the artistic team struggled to cope with Ms Archer's artistic temperament and feel the "shackles have been removed" now she has left.
And her airborne office - she spent little time in the city, but always insisted she was working on the 08 plans as she jetted across the world - angered some who felt she should spend more time in the local arts community.
Ms Archer was also said to be increasingly unhappy and was finding being away from Australia tougher than expected.
But, despite her position being one of the most crucial in the preparations for the 08 celebrations, political leaders last night insisted her departure marked a fresh start rather than a disaster.
Former council leader Mike Storey, one of the key players in helping the city to win the title, said: "I'm quite relaxed about Robyn's departure. I don't think it's a disaster, quite the opposite."
