Timeline - how events unfolded

November 2006 – Council admits Mathew Street festival might have to move out of city centre in 2007 because of building work at Pier Head.

March 2007 - Festival budget reduced from £500,000 to £400,000 - £200,000 less than the previous year - by Cllrs Bradley and Storey to pay for a sound and light show.

June 4 - Lee Forde hands in his resignation and is due to leave just before the festival weekend.

June 5 - Police request extra urgent work is done to event plan.

July 4 - Chris Green made fully aware of work still left to do and level of police concerns.

July 11 - Colin Hilton and Jason Harborow made aware of police concerns.

July 20 – As police voice concerns about health and safety, decision taken to bring in independent experts to review festival plans.

July 27 – Capita Symonds visit Culture Company to scrutinise festival organisation.

August 1 - Warren Bradley contacted on holiday and informed the report says the festival should not go ahead because of serious health and safety concerns.

August 2 – Council and Culture Company jointly announce the cancellation of the festival.

August 3 – ECHO launches bid to save festival by teaming up with indoor venues to host bands earmarked for outdoor stages. Cllr Bradley orders independent inquiry into circumstances leading to cancellation.

August 9 – Council announces rescue package. The festival will take place at indoor venues but outdoor stages do not survive.

August 21 - A leaked secret email reveals Cllr Bradley’s demand for Culture Company boss Jason Harborow’s head. Critics say it makes a mockery of claims that the inquiry is independent.

August 26-27 - Hundreds of thousands of people pack the city centre for the festival.

September 5 - Opposition calls to bring in a top lawyer to handle the inquiry are rejected.

November 16 - Report published.
