Speaking outside court, Mrs Mayze said she was disappointed her son's character had been tarnished. She said Jay-Jay used to work at the takeaway and he and other youths would go round the back to buy food at busy times.
Mrs Mayze said: "Jay-Jay was not a thief. "He was only 16 and he'd never been in trouble in his life. When the ambulance came, he was still clutching a fiver, so I think he was going to buy food."
