WORK has started to cut away the collapsed crane still suspended on top of a building in Liverpool city centre.
A crew of five specialists - plus a member of the fire service - are currently using blowtorches to work on the giant rig, while streams of water are being poured across the structure and the building beneath to reduce the risk of fire.
Police and engineers have gone into a meeting to discuss the next stage of the process, while three cranes are also in place, waiting for the work of moving the wreckage to begin.
