"It is slap-bang in the middle of a residential area with a large population of young children and is in close proximity to three schools."
The 15ft mast has been installed by mobile phone company O2 on top of an old telephone exchange.
Protesters fear the radiation beams from the mast could trigger health problems such as cancer.
Dr Weston, a father of two young children, said: "Mobile phone masts should not be in residential areas until we know what we are dealing with."
Although the mast was erected 12 months ago, local opposition has delayed its activation although it could be within the next few weeks.
A spokeswoman for O2 said the company had tried to find alter-native sites.
"We believe this site is safe and is within international guidelines.
"The service in the Crosby area has not been good for a long time and we are trying to improve that service for our customers. The fact is the mast has to be in the area where the service is being used."
