HONORARY fellowships will be presented to Merseyside's finest, Liverpool John Moores university has announced.
Among the fellows are Merseyside Police Chief Constable Norman Bettison, (pictured), for his services to policing and John Roberts for his work in industry.
Screenwriter Frank Cottrell Boyce will have his contribution to film recognised and media guru Gillian Reynolds will also be awarded an honorary fellowship.
Actress Sue Johnston, famous for her role in the Royle Family, will also be given the accolade, as will Wirral-born children's author Shirley Hughes, daughter of stores magnate T J Hughes.
Julian Parker will have his distinguished service to computing and mathematical sciences commended and Clare Dove, who has been integral to women's education in Merseyside for the last 20 years, is set to receive the honour of a fellowship.
Mr Bettison said: "I am as proud as punch to have the opportunity for an ongoing relationship with the university long after I hang up my policeman's boots.
"I've been privileged to be a Merseysider for the last six years, at a time of rapid and positive changes in the region. While I've tried to lock up the bad guys and reassure our communities, I realise that we have to invest much more effort into building the city and region we want for the future.
"I've been working with all the agencies, including John Moores University, which are building the capacity and confidence of this fabulous city and region. This might be why the university have given me this honour."
Mr Bettison was appointed Chief Constable of Merseyside in 1998 after starting in the police force in 1972, and is responsible for 6,500 staff. He is due to step down later this year.
The luminaries will be presented with their honorary fellowships at graduation ceremonies from Monday, July 26 to Friday, July 30, alongside students who have studied for their qualifications.
Organisations which have been given Anniversary Achievement Awards will also be presented at the graduation ceremonies and include radical bookshop News From Nowhere on Bold Street, Liverpool's Anglican Cathedral and Radio City.
