ONE of the most feared figures in the Liverpool underworld has been jailed for six years after plotting to flood Jersey's nightclub scene with ecstasy.
Nicky Ayers, 41, from Norris Green, was sentenced to six years at the Royal Court of Jersey for his part in importing 3,875 ecstasy tablets and 30 kilograms of cannabis into the island.
Two Liverpool associates, Richard Kendrick, 36, and Kevin Mooney, 29, were jailed for seven and eight years respectively.
Ayers denied his involvement in the plot and his barrister Rebecca Juste said he intended to appeal against his conviction.
The court heard how Kend-rick had travelled from Wey-mouth on February 23 this year by boat and brought the drugs into Jersey concealed in the bumpers of a Ford Mondeo.
Ayers travelled to Jersey on a flight the following day but the plot was foiled by a joint Customs and police surveillance operation.
During the trial, Kendrick, whose role had been in transporting the drugs safely, insisted that everything had been his idea.
Jersey deputy chief Customs officer Steven Le Marquand said the three were the latest in a long line of Liverpool criminals involved in smuggling drugs into the island.
