Dead fox left on MP's doorstep

West Lancashire MP Colin Pickthall

AN ANTI-HUNTING MP found a dead fox dumped on his doorstep by pro-hunters determined to defy the Government ban on their sport.

West Lancashire MP Colin Pickthall opened his front door to find the animal with a label tied around its neck, reading: "Not over 'til the last horn blows".

Mr Pickthall said last night: "It's not quite a horse's head in your bed, but it does take you aback.

"I accept that some foxes have to be shot to protect some farm animals, but for the most part their population is controlled.

"When an animal like that is shot for no apparent reason but to be dumped on my doorstep, I find it pretty disgusting."

Mr Pickthall's home in Skelmersdale was targeted on Saturday morning, the day after the Government's hunting ban came into effect.

"It was clearly a 'we know where you live' message, but then everyone knows where I live, so that doesn't particularly worry me," said Mr Pickthall. "I was just pleased it was me who found it rather than any other member of my family."

During his 13 years in Parliament, the politician has been an outspoken opponent of bloodsports. However, he said he did not believe the incident at his home was indicative of all pro-hunt supporters, adding that time would dilute their passions.
