A NEW musical about John Lennon has been seen off by the infamous Butchers of Broadway.
Both the New York Times and New York Post have slaughtered the show, attended by Lennon's widow Yoko Ono and their son Sean.
The rejection of the show has been echoed by British newspaper Broadway critics, with one headline proclaiming: You can't imagine how bad it is.
The world's most powerful theatre critic, Clive Barnes, of the New York Post says: "It suffers froma concept so shaky it can scarcely stagger from one side of the stage to the other."
He castigates Yoko Ono ' s involvement calling the musical "more hagiography than biography - the show is positioned between a rock and a hard Ono."
The New York Post critic says: "A fierce primal scream - of the type Ms Ono is famous for - is surely the healthiest response to the agony of this jerry-built musical shrine."
The Times critic Ben Brantley also launches a fierce attack on the ex-Beatle, who was gunned down outside his New York apartment 25 years ago.
He calls Lennon himself "vapid" and asks: "Who is that man anyway, and what is he doing here?"
Brantley proclaims the showa whitewash saying: "Lennon's substance abuse, womanising and acts of violence are kept to a minimum. His drug arrest for marijuana is presented as a frame-up, and his use of heroin is never mentioned."
