EVERY corner of Liverpool city centre will echo with the unmistakable sound of an era that put Liverpool on the map. Over the next six days, tribute bands taking part in Beatle Week will take to the stage to play the music of the Fab Four.
Over the Bank Holiday weekend, they will perform alongside a host of today's charttoppers, including pop favourites McFly who are headlining the Mathew Street Festival.
The two juxtaposing events, which have both become world-famous in their own right, are expected to bring more than 400,000 people into the city.
Liverpool will be bursting at the seams with all of its 3,000 hotel rooms booked up weeks ago.
Last night, Beatle Week 2005 was launched at the Cavern Pub by Liverpool's homegrown tribute band, the Mersey Beatles.
As the celebrations began to pick up, the band were joined on stage by other groups who have flown from around the world to perform in Liverpool.
Organiser of the event Bill Heckle, the director of Cavern City Tours, said it has become so successful, he hopes Beatle Week will soon become Beatle Month.
"That is my aim. There are certainly enough people who want to come and enough bands who want to play to make that feasible.
"It just gets bigger every year. The response this year has been unbelievable even though at the moment Liverpool is not at its best with all the roadworks and changes taking place in the city.
"I want August to become the time that Liverpool celebrates the music of the Beatles by listening to great musicians play their songs - and some of their own as well."
