The Liverpool Community College student's parents believe their son was a victim of Roaccutane and want a full investigation into the drug.
At an inquest yesterday, a link between the drug and his death on February 4 was ruled out.
But afterwards his parents Anne and Fred Roberts said: "What has happened to us and our family is the most devastating and heartbreaking experience any family can endure. David was a truly amazing young man who had so much to look forward to.
"There are other families worldwide who have suffered. We believe this cannot go on. There are too many people suffering adverse reactions."
Mr Roberts was prescribed a 16-week course of Roaccutane after his GP referred him to the dermatology department at Broadgreen Hospital. He was warned of the possible side-effects, the inquest heard.
