She was signed off sick in January 2004, but hospital chiefs failed to offer her redeployment and she was sacked.
Mrs Capener claimed unfair dismissal and a tribunal ruled in her favour, awarding her compensation for hurt feelings and loss of income.
The tribunal heard that the way NHS officials handled her dismissal worsened her depression, and led to her being diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Tribunal chairman Mervyn Homfray-Davies criticised the hospital for forcing Mrs Capener to take her claim to a full hearing, causing her further anxiety.
He branded the handling of the case as "insensitive and incompetent" and said it was impossible for the NHS Trust to justify its conduct.
