John Lennon & Yoko Ono from the 80's

AN UNBROADCAST interview with John Lennon and Yoko Ono is the main item in an auction haul to spearhead a new world Beatles collection in Liverpool.

The one-hour reel to reel tape, made in a Montreal bedroom in 1969, gives fresh insight into Lennon's views on his marriage, The Beatles and Jesus Christ.

It is one of several items bought for a total of £30,000 from Christie's sale room, London, for the future Museum of Liverpool, due to open in 2009.

A spokesman for National Museums Liverpool said the purchases, which also include 60 black and white negatives of The Beatles' 1964 US tour, were "sensational."

They form the beginning of what should be the definitive collection of Beatles memorabilia.

The interview was made on May 29, 1969, by Canadian radio journalist Ken Seymour for a programme called Something To Say. But it was never broadcast, nor its existence documented by Beatles' biographers..

The tape and negatives will form part of a "world class" Beatles collection NML is hoping to establish in the yet to be built Museum of Liverpool on the Pier Head Mann Island site.
