A MAN in a Spider-Man costume scaled Liverpool's Roman Catholic cathedral today to demonstrate about fathers' rights.
Ex-Paratrooper George Young, 34, from Walton, a member of the campaign group Fathers 4 Justice, took two hours to winch himself and his supplies to the roof.
Armed with a priest outfit and banners reading "Wakey, Wakey Mr Blair" and "In the Name of the Father" he plans to stay on the roof for a week in protest over access rights.
Mr Young said: "I am just at the end of my tether.
"Contact orders are not worth the paper they are written on.
"I just hope this protest will make a difference to the law and to my case. I don't know what else to do."
Another protester, who helped him get on the roof, said: "We have asked the church for help in the past, but they say they can't get involved because it is a political matter. "But that is rubbish, the church gets involved in everything.
"We have been quiet for the past six months because we had an agreement with the government. But now they say they are not going to change the law."
A police spokeswoman said: "We respect everyone's right to peaceful protest but public safety is paramount and we will be ensuring no-one is at risk."
