MOTORISTS will face the worst congestion in Merseyside's history over the next 12 months, transport experts predict.
As developers rush to complete schemes across the city in time to cash in on Capital of Culture year, the impact of building work will add to the chaos caused by the Big Dig project.
It will also compound problems for commuters travelling into Liverpool from outlying areas who will still have to negotiate delays on motorways and major trunk roads in the region.
Stephen Pearse, transport spokesman at Liverpool Chamber of Commerce, said: "The city has not had roadworks on this scale and intensity before, particularly while traffic is generally increasing.
