Park and pride - Liverpool's fame reaches into new areas

Car park connoisseur Kevin Beresford - very impressed with Liverpool's facilities

LIVERPOOL is renowned the world over for its two football teams and its two cathedrals, and now a new duet has been added to the city's list of famous doubles.

This time the accolade has been given to two car parks judged to be among the best in the country.

If people think that a league table of car parks is enough to drive the average motorist around the nearest bend, they should ask motoring guru Kevin Beresford what he thinks.

Mr Beresford has already compiled a list of the country's best known traffic roundabouts.

The newly-discovered knight of the road chose car parks as his latest crusade, finding the best and the worst up and down the country.

Number two in his top ten list is the city's newest car park, the Q-parks multi-storey in Canning Place.

It was designed by architects Wilkinson Eyre, the firm that also produced the award-winning Millennium Bridge across the Tyne at Newcastle.

The nearby Albert Dock car park also makes his top ten list, praised for its "ripping retro feel".

Mr Beresford described the two as being among the most motorist-friendly car parks in the UK during research he was conducting for AA Insurance.

Last night, Birmingham based Mr Beresford said: "The new car park oozed class and is adorned with steel Venetian blinds and speedy external ramps.

"My white glove test would have impressed my mother-in-law. You could have eaten off the floor of this car park.

"It looks superb and has tremendous views of the city and the river.
