Sir David to sort out Child Support Agency

Feb 3 2006

Sir David Henshaw

LIVERPOOL'S outgoing chief executive has landed a key Whitehall job.

Sir David Henshaw announced this week he is to quit his role at the city council in March.

Now Sir David has been chosen to compile a major report into the effectiveness of the controversial Child Support Agency.

The ECHO understands the council's chief executive has accepted the job on a part-time basis. He is also understood to be looking at other opportunities.

Sir David was knighted under Tony Blair's premiership and is known to be well-respected in Whitehall circles.

He struck a cash deal with the council to leave his post early, paving the way for a new era following months of bitterness over the e-mail scandal that forced Mike Storey to resign as leader.

Criticism has been heaped on the Child Support Agency since its 1993 launch. Long delays in payments, unwieldy bureaucracy and baffling calculation methods have embarrassed successive governments.
