Sir David facing calls for probe over trams

Sir David Henshaw

SIR David Henshaw is facing fresh calls for an inquiry into his conduct.

The outgoing chief executive of Liverpool council was accused in court earlier this month of being opposed to the doomed Merseytram scheme before its collapse.

The high court was told he sent a report containing concerns about the financial implications of the tram to the government before senior councillors had seen it.

Cllr Joe Anderson, leader of the opposition, said: "The people of this city have a right to know what went on and I am convinced that they will be extremely annoyed that the chief executive's actions were not the actions of someone who supported the tram project.

"I ask that you give consideration to suspending the chief executive until there is a full and independent inquiry."

Cllr Bradley said: "I am looking into this matter and awaiting legal advice on some of Cllr Anderson's comments. As far as suspending Sir David or his deal, that is not something I am considering at the moment."

The council has said that information is exchanged with the government and other organisations confidentially on a regular basis.

Sir David declined to comment.
