Fury at 051 teen nights

Feb 17 2006

By Luke Traynor, Liverpool Echo

Club 051

A LIVERPOOL club closed down because of violence and underage drinking has agreed to axe its new club nights for teenagers.

Police were shocked to discover the 051 on Mount Pleasant was back in business with under-18 events for up to 1,200 young clubbers.

Fliers advertising the fortnightly Friday event, called Detention, were being handed out to to children at school gates around Merseyside.

Under-18 nights are not illegal in Liverpool but police believe they lead to disorder.

Sgt Paul Douglas, a licensing officer for Merseyside police, said: "Historically, these events have led to disorder so we tend not to support them.

"Normally, a club or venue will contact us to let us know their intentions. Club 051 never informed us about this under-18 night."
