THE memory of Anthony Walker has been honoured in a night of sheer, heartwarming inspiration.
More than 500 guests packed Liverpool's Adelphi hotel and were held spellbound as...
* DOUBLE Olympic gold medal winner Dame Kelly Holmes told how she overcame injury, self-doubt and depression to rule world athletics.
* ANTHONY'S mother Gee launched the ECHO Citizenship Award by telling how she wakes with her grief then copes "by saying a prayer then beginning another day."
* THREE of Liverpool's bravest and most determined young people were honoured for extraordinary achievement.
The first Anthony Walker Young Citizen of the Year award was won by 17-year-old Lauren Irwin, chosen from dozens of other nominees by the Walker family.
Lauren, from Childwall, has travelled around the country teaching children about bullying. She was inspired to write a song, Stand Tall, which has now been adopted by Childline, after one of her best friends suffered at the hands of bullies.
She received her award at the Winning Women dinner organised by Esther McVey and backed by the NWDA and Merseyrail.
Lauren said: "I feel extremely honoured and very privileged to have been chosen to receive this award. It is particularly special because it is in memory of Anthony Walker."
Two other young people received Anthony Walker Citizen Awards in recognition of their community work.
