THE father of 12-year-old schoolboy Tim Parry, killed by an IRA bomb in Warrington in 1993, is to sue the Libyan government and its leader, Colonel Gaddafi, over claims the country supplied the explosives.

Colin Parry is among a group of about 11 people affected by the attack who are joining the class action mounted by London-based law firm H2O after a meeting in Warrington last week. Victory could see a multi-million pound compensation package and an apology from the regime.

The mother of another victim, three-year-old Johnathan Ball, who also died in the Warrington blast, has joined the action. It is part of a wider legal case being filed in the US, which includes lawsuits from American victims of IRA bombings.

The civil action is being led by human rights lawyer Jason McCue, who is originally from Warrington.

Mr Parry said: "It is important the state of Libya is held to account.

"Jason McCue called me some time ago and asked me if I wanted to join in. I talked it through with my family and and the other victims of the Warrington bombing, and we decided we would join the action.

"The key element in the case is the claim that it was the Libyans who supplied the Semtex to the IRA.

"That means their hands are on the bomb that killed my son (pictured left).

"There was a great deal of unanimity among us that we had a just cause, and as the case was already up and running in the US courts that was a particularly compelling argument for us to join in."
