John Lennon was inspired by The Walrus And The Carpenter

A JOHN LENNON schoolbook containing a drawing of a walrus was sold at auction last night for more than £125,000.

The picture by the late Beatle is an illustration of Lewis Carroll's poem, The Walrus And The Carpenter.

This poem was later acknowledged by Lennon to have been the inspiration for the band's 1967 song, I Am The Walrus.

The book it is in, entitled My Anthology, contains some of the earliest thoughts, drawings and poems of the music legend in 10 illustrated pages. Bound in red paper, it dates back to when Lennon was just 12 and was estimated for sale at between £100,000 and £150,000.

A private collector beat bids from America to keep the book in the UK, paying £126,500.
