TERMINALLY-ILL Pete Jones vowed last night he will fly to Switzerland to end his life with a lethal injection.

Mr Jones, 53, suffers with motor neurone disease and is preparing to make his final journey to a flat in Zurich owned by the Swiss euthanasia society Dignitas.

Last night he called for the House of Lords to vote in favour of Lord Joel Joffe's Assisted Dying Bill, which would give him the choice to die in this country.

Mr Jones, from Warrington, was diagnosed with the muscle-wasting disease in 2003 when doctors told him he had between three to five years to live.

Last night he said he wanted to be able to decide when to end his life and called on the Government to relax laws surrounding voluntary euthanasia.

The news comes before tomorrow's vote in the House of Lords where the future of the controversial Assisted Dying for the Terminally Ill Bill will be decided.

If successful, it would allow Britons suffering chronic pain and illness to choose when to die, following assessment by psychiatrists and doctors in this country.

Speaking from his home in Sandycroft Close, Mr Jones described the agonising symptoms that led him to consider a death with Dignitas.

He said: "I am a proponent of the Bill because it will give people like me the right to die when we want.

"Each day I realise there are things I can't do today that I could do yesterday.
