Boy, 11, on sex register

May 12 2006

By Tina Miles, Liverpool Echo

AN 11-year-old Merseyside boy is believed to have become Britain's youngest registered sex offender.

He was 10 when he sexually assaulted a young girl.

The boy was made to sign the register after being found guilty of sexually assaulting the 13-year-old girl in an Ainsdale park.

But solicitor Rory McCormack, speaking on behalf of the boy's grandmother, said the family would appeal.

Magistrates heard that the boy trapped the girl by lying on top of her and touched her breasts with both hands as she struggled to free herself.

The girl told Southport police, after the incident on September 14 last year, that two boys made sexual references before assaulting her.

She said: "I was angry and frightened and felt dirty."

The boy was convicted under the Sexual Offences Act.

Magistrates at North Sefton youth court proposed an action plan order for three months, with the boy having to report weekly to a Youth Offending Team member.

During the order he will be made to carry out a range of activities under the supervision of a youth offending team member to help him stay out of trouble in the future.
