THE Beatles made a triumphant return to Liverpool last night - in the form of their Madam Tussaud's waxworks.

The sculptures arrived at Lime Street station en-route to their new home, The Beatles Story museum in Liverpool.

The life-size models made in 1964, had been kept in storage at Madame Tussaud's.

They were recently bought by a private collector, who decided to donate the models to the museum.

It is not known exactly how much he paid for them, but it is thought they had a price tag of more than £80,000, the price of a similar set of models bought by a Japanese collector.

Jerry Goldman, director of the Albert Dock attraction, said: "We are absolutely thrilled to have the models here. We think they will be a huge hit at the museum.

"They attracted a fair few glances and open mouths as we were transporting them from London to Liverpool. "
