A ROW is threatening to derail the selection of Liverpool's new council chief executive.
Labour councillors have walked out on a panel put together to choose Sir David Henshaw's replacement as the most important and highly-paid council employee.
They are angry that former council leader Mike Storey, who stood down after a huge fall-out with Sir David, will have a say on his successor.
But the ruling Liberal Democrats have accused Labour of "political point-scoring" - saying Labour councillors did not oppose Cllr Storey's election onto the panel and have waited weeks to protest.
Labour claim Cllr Storey, accused of trying to engineer Sir David's departure from the town hall in a set of private emails last year, is not a suitable person to help make the choice.
Labour group leader Joe Anderson, one of three councillors to leave the panel, said: "I do not feel it is appropriate for Cllr Storey to be on this panel, given his clear involvement in bringing his office into disrepute.
"If the points I raise are accepted and the panel changed, then I and my members will be willing to stay on the panel."
