MIKE McCARTNEY'S campaign to give anonymity to defendants in sex offence cases was last night backed by his MP in Parliament.
The Wirral South MP Ben Chapman led a debate in the House of Commons after the highly publicised accusations against Mike McCartney were thrown out of court by the judge.
Mr McCartney, former member of sixties group The Scaffold and younger brother of Paul McCartney, had vowed to take his campaign for anonymity all the way to Parliament after he was found innocent of charges of "sexual touching".
He had said how in the run-up to the case at Chester Crown Court earlier this year he and his family went through "a nightmare that became a day-mare".
Mr McCartney, who is Wirral's Cultural Ambassador, said: "All I want is justice and fairness for all but, as it stands, you are guilty until proven innocent.
"This campaign is about trying to make sure what happened doesn't happen to others.
"I was a person of unquestioned character out for an evening with my wife and family when this allegation linked my good family name to a sexual assault.
